Join us for a two day workshop where you will learn basic handbuilding skills and how to decorate your pieces using wax resist techniques. Day one, January, 24 @ 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM: Our instructor will start with a demonstration on how to create your pieces using basic handbuilding techniques. You can choose if you want to make a matching set or make a few different objects and explore a variety of forms. You will create your pieces on the first day, keeping in mind how you'd like your surface decoration come into play on the second day. Day two, February, 7 @ 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM: Our instructor will demonstrate how to use wax as a "resist" to create unique surfaces. Wax essentially acts as a resist- wherever it's applied, the glaze will not stick to it, leaving the "raw" clay body to show through. What's included: -Clay. 2 LBS/person (We will be using M390 which is a red earthenware- it can stain your clothes). -Tools -Coloured slips and underglazes -Glazing and firing What you'll learn, -Various handbuilding techniques. -How to create a matching set -How to use wax as a surface decoration technique -How to create interesting patterns/designs onto your work. -How to glaze your pieces (we will be using a white glaze).
